The Mara is the northernmost part of the spectacular Serengeti-Mara ecosystem, home to the “Great Migration” and scores of other wildlife, including lions, cheetahs, elephants, rhinos, hippos, and crocodiles.

Hot Air Balloon Safari In Masai Mara
A truly ‘once in a lifetime’ experience, flying in a Hot Air Balloon over the Masai Mara plains is an evocative experience that you have the chance to enjoy during any safari you take to Maasai Mara. The balloon takes off at the break of dawn, around 6am, gliding silently during the ride over the savannah grasslands below where you may spot a variety of wildlife. The flight lasts an hour and concludes with a ”Champagne Bush Breakfast” at the balloon landing site in the wilderness.
A wonderful way to see Kenya’s premier game reserve, the Masai Mara, is on
a hot air balloon safari. Floating in a balloon above the plains gives you
a totally different perspective on the park.
You can see birds roosting in the tops of trees, giraffe hiding under the
forest canopy, and the backs of hippo pods and crocodiles in the snaking
rivers. As you balloon at sunrise, you see the mist rising from the plains
and light spreading over the park.
Dawn in the Mara is one of the most beautiful sights in Africa.
You are woken up at early hours of the morning from your safari lodge or
tented camp and as the thought of game viewing from an elevated position
stirs your mind. You are served some coffee or tea to awaken you up and
are then transferred to the Balloon launch pad site.
At dawn you take off rising as the sun rises and float in whichever direction
the winds of the morning take you. The balloon pilot controls the altitude
of the balloon; offering you a unique perspective and great photographic
opportunities. At other times the pilot will ascend high to enable you see and
appreciate the enormity and wonderful panorama of the plains below. The balloon
floats silently above it all ‘like a dream come true.’
The flight takes about one hour and lands in the Bush to a Champagne style
breakfast and the presentation of the Balloon flight certificates. You are
later driven to back to your safari lodge or tented camp.
Hot Air Balloon flights need to be per-arranged with CKC Tours & Travel to
ensure guaranteed availability due to the limited space of only 16 passengers
in a balloon.

HOT AIR BALLOON SAFARIS 2024/2025
Arrive at the launch site by 6AM, here you can watch the balloons being prepared
for take-off as you enjoy a cup of Kenyan tea or coffee.
Your balloon pilot, will in the meantime give you a safety briefing as well as
explain your expectations during the flight. At the Launch site-there are basic
toilet facilities available.
Just before sunrise, at approximately 6:30AM, you shall board the balloon basket.
The balloon flight lasts approximately one hour, and this also depends on prevailing
wind conditions, landing is between 7:30 and 7:45AM.
Upon landing, and as part of this unique adventure-you may observe the complete
deflation of the balloon.
You shall then be transported to a place for your breakfast.
Breakfast is usually set up on the savannah plains of the Masai Mara, traditionally
under the shade of a lonely acacia tree.
Breakfast is an experience to remember-full and Kenyan style, complete with fresh
juices, eggs-to-order waiters in traditional costume, and, of course, champagne.
